What does it take to be a special ops soldier?

Last May 31, the United States celebrated Memorial Day to honor its military heroes. The armed forces get a lot of crap from the mainstream media both in the US and in the Philippines. On one hand, certain military personnel have violated human rights. Those people have to be made accountable. On the other hand, we remain safe, happy, and productive because of our soldiers’ heroism. Many of their operations cannot be declassified, so we will never know the extent to which they have sacrificed their well-being to thwart terrorism. Special forces, in particular, get assigned to missions with unimaginable levels of danger. They are thrusted in circumstances wherein they have to act quickly in the face of moral dilemmas that might lead either to the death or liberation of multitudes.

So while we must never embrace authoritarianism, let’s give our military a break, shall we? And let’s give them the honor that they deserve. The great majority of them are brave and self-sacrificing. In fact, the deadliest special forces are more moral and more highly-skilled than what many of us can ever be. Except for soldiers who are Nazis or communists.

So what do special operations officers do? What are their skills? If you’re young, athletic, and intelligent, this noble profession might be for you. Check out the links below to get a glimpse of what they do all over the world. And if you’re an occupational therapist like me, stand proud for we’ve been helping servicemen fight for liberty since World War I!
